St. Petersburg is one of the biggest centers of the world’s intellectual culture. During the excursion, you will see the Orthodox, the Protestant, the Catholic and even the Buddhist cathedrals, visit the Mosque and the Synagogue and get to know about the main features and traditions of different religions.

St. Petersburg - the city of all religions

After visiting St. Petersburg, A. Dumas named the Nevsky Prospect «the street of religious tolerance» where the cathedrals of several religions coexist with each other. Today, there are more than 140 ethnic groups, 268 confessions and religious communities and plenty of functioning temples in St. Petersburg. All these allow for modern St. Petersburg to be referred to as to a city of all religions. That is why we decided to give such a title to our excursion.

The Catholic Church of St. Catherine and The Lutheran Church of St. Michael

During the tour, you will get to know the history of the first houses of worship, their further fate and development of many confessions of the City on Neva and see the famous temples of the different religions. After a small prologue, you will have a chance to see the gorgeous Catholic Church of St. Catherine situated on the main street of the Northern Capital. It is noteworthy that this temple is preserved from the times of Catherine the Great.

Then you will see The Lutheran Church of St. Michael which is situated on Vasilyevsky (Basil) Island. It is famous for the unparalleled acoustics of its halls. The biggest mechanical organ of St. Petersburg is situated here. Today, the church holds not only service but also fundraising concerts.

The Grand Choral Synagogue and The St. Petersburg Mosque

The Grand Choral Synagogue on Lermontovsky Prospect is also famous for its exquisite acoustics. Please note that every whisper here is heard on a distance of 10 meters.

Then you will see The St. Petersburg Mosque. However, you will only have the opportunity to see the exterior, because according to Islam, only Muslims can enter the Mosque.

Excursion to The Datsan Gunzechoinei and St. Nicholas Naval Cathedral

We will also visit the Datsan on Primorsky Prospect and have a tour round this holy place together with a Buddhist monk.

And, of course, we will not dare to forget about the orthodox St. Nicholas Naval Cathedral on Nikolskaya Square. It is considered to be the main cathedral for seamen. The fragments of relics of Saint Nicholas and the Greek icon of XVII century with his image are held here.
