We invite you to join us on our route to the picturesque suburb of St. Petersburg. Once Tsarskoye Selo, today Pushkin has something to entertain its guests and amuse them with an unparalleled Palace and Park Ensemble and exciting stories. You will have the unique opportunity to visit the famous halls of Catherine Palace and Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum.

The Grand Palace

The tour on the Tsarskoye Selo Road will be a prologue to discovering the splendid Pushkin and its main sights. The Catherine Palace - the country residence of the Russian Emperors - is a true gem of the picturesque suburb of St. Petersburg. During its life, the building was subject to many architectural changes both in exterior and in interior.

The best architects were working on its construction, but the Palace acquired its true splendour and grandeur thanks to Rastrelli’s talent. The dazzling exterior and the marvelous interior decoration provoke rapt looks of the guests of Tsarskoye Selo for several centuries. The appearance of the Grand Enfilade, the Great Hall and The Amber Room are certainly worth your attention.

Catherine’s changes

During the times of Catherine, the Palace saw the emergence of halls of no less elegance: Lyon and Arabesque living rooms, Silver and Blue cabinets, Dome dining room and Chinese hall. The Palace acquired its name in this very period. By its composition, it is divided into the regular garden, which was designed at the times of the first owner of the estate (Catherine I) and landscape garden, which was designed significantly later.

Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum

The Lyceum was founded by Alexander I as a closed educational institution for youths of noble families. A.S. Pushkin, with whom the history of the Lyceum is intimately associated, was one of its first students. Later on, the Lyceum acquired the name «Pushkinsky».

You will also get to know that the names of many of the students later became part of Russia’s history and that a Museum-Lyceum was opened here to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the great Russian poet. They have managed to restore the furnishings of the Newspaper Room, The Great Hall, the classes and the sleeping rooms of the students in accordance with the archive documents. It is noteworthy that the library has managed to preserve the originals of the books which the famous graduates read.
