You are offered to join an exciting trip to one of the historical suburbs of St. Petersburg - the famous Pavlovsk. During the tour, you will learn facts about its history, visit the grandiose Grand Palace halls and take a walk through the picturesque Pavlovsk Park.

Astonishing coincidence

Your acquaintance with the Pavlovsk Palace will begin with an interesting fact. The date of foundation of the estate and the very day when Catherine II has given a land allotment on the bank of Slavyanka river to Paul I and his spouse as a gift coincides with the birthday of the favourite grandson of the Empress - the future Emperor Alexander I. It is interesting to know that the modern appearance of the Palace is the result of many restoration works.

Heavy fate of The Pavlovsk Palace

To start with, the restoration works began in the beginning of XIX century, when the mansion suffered from a terrible fire. The reconstruction took then 12 years. The Palace and Park Ensemble also suffered during the Great Patriotic War. It was only in 1957 that the Pavlovsk Palace could again open its doors to visitors.

Museum exhibits and gorgeous interiors

Today, the amazing collections of paintings and masterpieces of decorative and applied art, faience, porcelain, glass and bronze are to be found here. The collections are based on the masterpieces bought by Paul I and Maria Feodorovna during their trip to Europe as well as the pieces of value taken as a gift from the European Courts.

The Grand Throne Hall, the Art Gallery, the Italian and Greek halls and the apartments of Maria Feodorovna usually provoke much interest of the tourists. The original furnishing is preserved in the living rooms of the Empress, which gives a clear impression of the peculiarities of everyday life of tsarist times.

Masterpiece of landscaping art

The Park ensemble is worth your attention. It is considered to be the best landscape park in the world. You will be amused by its elegance and scope. It occupies a territory of 600 ha which ranks the park with the biggest European parks in scale.
